What Is The World's Hottest Pepper?

For many, they would like to consider several peppers to be contenders in this race. In fact, people often get confused when we talk about one or another pepper being the hottest. The world's hottest pepper is a variety of the habanero peppers. Its name is the Red Savinas. While the habaneros in this line are hot, we continue to see that scientists are developing other varieties. They are looking for even hotter varieties. Until then, though, the Red Savinas will reign supreme in heat! Bring on the hot sauces!!

You think you hot sauces are hot check this out: The average Scoville heat units for the habanero pepper is somewhere in the range of 200,000 to 300,000 units. The Red Savinas, well, they tip the scale at…. Are you ready for this? 580,000 Scoville heat units! Cayenne peppers, another type of hot pepper is only about 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville heat units. As you can clearly see, the habanero varieties really do offer an additional punch even in sauces. You can see why the Red Savinas claim's the title!

What can be done with the world's hottest pepper? It can be used in hot sauces. It can be added to spice seasonings. It can be dried, frozen, or canned. If you do choose to use these spice seasonings in your cooking, you may want to move slowly into it because, as we said, it is hot! Be cautious with this habanero! Only add a little to spice up those seasonings.
